Yvan Muller claimed a front row starting position after qualifying for the first FIA World Touring Car Cup race of the weekend at the Hungaroring.
The Frenchman was fastest until the last couple of minutes when he lost one position to second place, just 0.171 seconds from pole position.
"We have made strong progress from yesterday when we were unhappy with how the cars performed. But the team worked hard and I am quite happy with the result," said Yvan Muller.
22-year-old Yann Ehrlacher was fifth fastest with Thed Björk right behind him in sixth position. A mere 23 thousands of a second separated the two Lynk & Co 03 TCR drivers.
Andy Priaulx had a tough session and finished 15th in the extremely competitive field where no less than 18 cars within one second on the 4,4 kilometre circuit. The Brit was 0.811 seconds from pole position.
The first race of the weekend at the Hungaroring starts at 15:15 CEST today.
