Prince Carl Philip and Thed Björk in the Swedish GT premiere this weekend

2017-05-03

Prince Carl Philip will be joined four-time STCC champion Thed Björk, just back from a historic World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) victory at Monza, in the Swedish GT season start at Knutstorp in Sweden this weekend.

Prince Carl Philip will drive a Volvo S60 Polestar in the fastest class GTA this season, facing tough opposition from Audi, Ferrari, McLaren and Porsche drivers.

”I feel ready for the season start and I look forward to the new challenge. I am really glad to race together with Thed at Knutstorp. We work really well together and he has got a vast experience that I can utilise,” said Prince Carl Philip.

The first race of the weekend features a mandatory pit stop with driver change where Thed Björk will be co-driver to Prince Carl Philip. The second race has Prince Carl Philip driving alone.

”It’s great to be back in the same team with Prince Carl Philip again. We last raced together in 2015 when I claimed my third straight title and he claimed his first win. My mission is to create a good way of working for Prince Carl Philip - a base to build on for him during the year to become champion. I’m glad to be back at Knutstorp as well. I secured my fourth STCC title last time I was there and of course, the feeling ahead of the weekend is awesome with a WTCC victory in the bag,” said Thed Björk.

The Swedish GT is an endurance championship that runs together with the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship for five race weekends. The move to Swedish GT for Polestar Cyan Racing comes following the change of regulations in the main class of the STCC for 2017.

”The Swedish GT will be a new challenge and it enables us to keep a presence in Sweden, one of our key markets. We are delighted to have the most recent World Championship race winner Thed Björk to support Prince Carl Philip this weekend. This is the first step in our plan to give him the best possible conditions to become the Swedish endurance racing champion,” said Alexander Murdzevski Schedvin, Head of Motorsport at Polestar.
