Richard Göransson has brought down the gap to Polestar Cyan Racing team mate Robert Dahlgren to just three points after the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship (STCC) qualifying at Falkenberg.
The four-time champion was fastest in Q1 by one tenth of a second on the short and fast Falkenberg circuit, meaning 25 vital points to the drivers’ championship.
”It has been an awesome first day after being fastest in all but one session and with a margin. It was a shame that I didn’t get a chance to set a competitive lap time in Q2 with gravel on track, but I can’t be anything but really pleased with the day despite that,” said Richard Göransson.
Dahlgren was second fastest in Q2 and fourth fastest in Q1, still holding the championship lead on 179 points compared to Göransson’s 176 points.
”I am not that pleased with the day. Things just went wrong in qualifying with a red flag on my best lap in Q1 and a lot of gravel on the track in Q2. But second and fourth with that in mind is of course okay and I feel confident for tomorrow, especially if there will be rain as we were really strong at Mantorp in the wet,” said Robert Dahlgren.
Prince Carl Philip secured his best qualifying result of 2016 in Q2, claiming sixth position, just 24 thousands of a seconds from fifth.
”I have mixed feelings from the day. I am disappointed by the off in Q2 but I am really pleased with sixth in Q1. The feeling I have in the car is the best so far this year and I hope we can continue that in the races tomorrow,” said Prince Carl Philip.
There is more drama expected for the two races tomorrow as rain is forecasted all day. The track has so far only been dry today, meaning a big challenge for the team to get the settings right for tomorrow.
”The entire team has done really well today and they will be put through an even tougher challenge tomorrow to find the right way in the wet with no previous data. We are no doubt in for two exciting races,” said Alexander Murdzevski Schedvin, Head of Motorsport at Polestar.
